Dr Renarta Thompkins, Secretary/Education Impact Chair

Dr. Renarta Tompkins is an Assistant Professor of Literacy at the University of South Carolina, Beaufort. She has worked with Coastal Carolina University and Horry County Schools on the effects of reading intervention programs, and prior to her university career she spent fourteen years in the Clayton County School System in Georgia.



Mark O’Neil, Immediate Past-Chair

A native of Hornell, New York, Mark O’Neil is the president of Hilton Head Regional Healthcare. A veteran of the US Air Force and graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, O’Neil is responsible for all strategic activities of Hilton Head Hospital, Coastal Carolina Hospital, Bluffton-Okatie Outpatient Center and the Bluffton Medical Campus. He also serves on the board of the South Carolina Hospital Association and is active with the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce.

Chris McCorkendale

A graduate of both Missouri State University and Troy State University, Chris McCorkendale is the Vice President, Operations and Strategic Sales for Hargray Communications Group, Inc. in Hilton Head. McCorkendale is responsible for all company operations and sales activities. Before a career in communications, he served as an officer in the US Army, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel.

J. Ashley Twombley

A graduate of the University of South Carolina Law School, Ashley Twombley is a practicing attorney with Twenge + Twombley Law Firm in Beaufort. Representing a variety of litigants, Twombley has argued cases before the Fourth and Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the South Carolina Supreme Court and the South Carolina Court of Appeals. He is past chairman of the board of directors of Protection and Advocacy for People with Disabilities, a statewide non-profit corporation that protects the legal rights of people with disabilities.
