While we continue to work on a permanent solution to the homeless situation in Beaufort and Jasper, we have an exciting new program that allows a temporary respite from the hardships faced by many in our area.
Soon we will be able to distribute backpacks fully stocked and available for those without a home who qualify to receive them. Partnering with CITYPAK, a Chicago-based initiative that provides a safe, versatile backpack uniquely designed to meet the needs of the homeless, we will soon begin filling the packs to distribute through several of our partner agencies.
At this time we are looking for donations of Saltine crackers, peanut butter, pop-top canned goods, blankets and bug spray. We will collect these to include in the backpacks along with other items that we are already accumulating. What might be an additional grocery item to us makes a world of difference to others.
To donate or find out more about the program, please contact Lesley Holladay at 982-3040 or firstname.lastname@example.org
You may call or drop-off items at all United Way of the Lowcountry offices, as well.
