Tax season is upon us, but there’s no need to worry! The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is back, offering free, IRS-certified tax preparation to qualified Lowcountry residents.

To celebrate the start of the season, VITA is hosting a Tax-A-Thon, a one-day event packed with tax assistance, community resources, entertainment, and fun for the whole family! Join us from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 15 at the Hardeeville Recreation Center, located at 285 John Smith Rd. in Hardeeville.

The Tax-A-Thon offers a wealth of resources. Get your taxes prepared for free by IRS-certified VITA volunteers. Explore a Community Resource Fair featuring Bluffton Self Help, PASOs, and TD Bank. Enjoy giveaways and prizes, live music from 96.1 Candela, kids’ activities, and delicious food from Antojitos Mary Food Truck. Spanish interpreters will be available, and both walk-ins and appointments are welcome.

VITA is a partnership between the IRS, Beaufort County Human Services Alliance, Beaufort County Public Library System, and United Way of the Lowcountry. The program helps eligible individuals and families maximize their refunds, ensuring they claim valuable credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Individuals and families earning under $67,000 per year, non-English-speaking taxpayers, individuals with disabilities, and seniors (60+) all qualify for VITA services.

VITA services have also expanded to new locations across Beaufort, Bamberg, Barnwell, Colleton, and Jasper counties.
