United Way of the Lowcountry and Beaufort County’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program filed more than 2,400 free tax returns last year in Beaufort and Jasper Counties — generating more than $4 million in economic impact.
Staffed by local volunteers, VITA provides free preparation and electronic filing of income tax returns for individuals and families in our area with low-to-moderate incomes who are eligible for tax credits.
VITA provides free tax preparation through in-person sites, drop off options and a virtual program.

Want to file your own taxes online? You can prepare your income taxes anywhere, anytime free of charge using myfreetaxes.com.
Dedicated volunteers are needed to help VITA provide free tax preparation services to people with limited incomes. By helping working families take advantage of programs like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), you can help bring in millions of dollars to the local community — dollars to help families jumpstart their savings, reduce debt and invest in our community.
