What is bullying? Bullying among children is aggressive behavior that is intentional and involves an imbalance of power or strength. Bullying is an unwanted behavior that invokes a real or perceived threat or action. Typically it is repeated over time. Bullying can take many forms, such as hitting and/or punching, insulting, demeaning, teasing or name calling, gestures using intimidation or social exclusion, and sending insulting messages by phone or computer email. Types of bullying include physical, verbal, social and cyber-bullying. Bullying can have long lasting effects for both the victim and the bully. South Carolina laws prohibit bullying- SC Codes §59-63-110, §59-63-120, §59-63-130, §59-63-140, §59-63-150 and §59-63-425.
