UWLC Seeks Community Input on Most Pressing Social Needs in Beaufort and Jasper Counties

United Way of the Lowcountry (UWLC) has launched a public survey seeking input from residents about the needs and issues they face and their vision for the future of the Lowcountry.

Residents of UWLC’s service area — Beaufort and Jasper counties — are invited to complete the online survey (in English or Spanish) at www.uwlowcountry.org/survey. The survey takes less than 15 minutes to complete, and all answers are anonymous. (For residents who don’t have access to the internet, paper copies of the survey are available. Contact the United Way office at 843.982.3040)

“We want to hear from everyone who represents the broad interests of our community, including residents, those who serve people in need, government representatives, first responders and educators,” said UWLC President and CEO Dale Douthat.

The survey is part of a comprehensive community needs assessment UWLC is conducting this year to identify and prioritize local health and human service needs of residents in the two-county region it actively serves. The assessment focuses on United Way’s key impact areas of basic needs, economic mobility, education and health.

Douthat said the survey will play a strategic role in identifying unmet needs and opportunities; highlighting social concerns that matter most; making sure resources are going where they are needed; and strengthening collaborative opportunities.

“We hope that by looking at our community through several different lenses, including geography, equity, and income level, United Way staff, board and volunteers will be better able to identify the prevalent, critical and ongoing issues that prevent our neighbors from reaching their full potential,” said Douthat.
